During the Upper Paleolithic, Tritons Cave—one of the archaeological sites of the Scavengers Project—was frequently used by leopards as a refuge and by bears as a hibernation site. Only the brief, occasional visits by groups of Homo sapiens seem to have interrupted this dynamic.
